People & Business :: Companies Cross-Industry Group to Develop Standards for Rail Tank Car Design11:05 AM MDT | July 25, 2007 | Nancy Seewald Dow Chemical, Union Pacific (UP), and Union Tank Car (Chicago) have formed an alliance with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to develop a next-generation rail tank car with improved safety and security features. The goal of the alliance is to establish a federal design standard for railcars that carry toxic by inhalation (TIH) materials, with which all shippers and carriers must comply, alliance members say.
