Compass Minerals reports loss on weak salt

Compass Minerals today reported its second-quarter results, posting a loss of $700,000 in earnings, down from a $10.6-million gain year-on-year (YOY). An earnings per share loss of 2 cts/share was far below analyst estimates of 27 cts/share, according to Thomson Reuters (New York). However, sales of $186.6 million were up 7% YOY. “Strength in demand for our premium plant nutrition products continued throughout the second quarter and pushed Compass Minerals’ total revenues higher despite seasonal weakness in our salt segment,” says Fran Malecha...
