Clariant Reports Higher Earnings, Sales; Buys Out Catalyst JV in Ukraine

Clariant says its sales increased 6% in the second quarter of 2012, to SF1.98 billion ($2.03 billion) compared with SF1.87 billion in second-quarter 2011. This improvement is mainly a result of a 3% increase in selling prices, which more than compensated for a 1% increase in raw material prices. Net profits also increased, from SF40 million in the second quarter of 2011 to SF70 in the second quarter of 2012, reflecting lower negative currency impact and lower taxes, the company says.
