Brussels Charges Companies with Calcium Carbide Price Fixing

The European Commission says it has charged “a number of companies” with participating in an alleged calcium carbide and magnesium powder price-fixing cartel. The commission says it has sent a statement of objections to the companies, but it did not name them. The commission raided the offices of leading producers of calcium carbide and magnesium in January 2007 and has since been investigating the alleged cartel.
