Bayer Builds Eco-friendly Chlorine Plant in Germany

Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) has confirmed that it will build a chlorine plant based on common salt. The plant will be designed to produce 20,000 m.t./year of chlorine and will be constructed at the company's Krefeld-Uerdingen site in Germany. The plant will be the first to use BMS's oxygen depolarized cathode (ODC) technology, using electrolysis cells provided by Uhdenora. Uhde will build the plant by the first half of 2011.
