Styron cuts styrene butadiene latex capacity in Europe

Styron Europe says it has reduced styrene butadiene (SB) latex capacity in Europe. Styron reduced production by a combined 70,000 m.t./year at plants located at Hamina, Finland; Rheinmunster, Germany; and Terneuzen, the Netherlands. The shift in production is in response to the current overcapacity in the European marketplace, Styron says. Due to declining demand in the European paper-coating market and current market conditions, a reduction is essential to regain a healthy supply/demand balance, it says.
