Speculation resurfaces over future of Total's Carling cracker

Market speculation has resurfaced over the future of Total's steam cracker at Carling, France, according to a report from French financial newspaper Les Echos. A refinery and petrochemical Central Works Council (CEC) has been convened by Total for 4 September and the company could announce a decision at the meeting to close the cracker, according to a trade union representative quoted by Les Échos. The Carling No. 2 cracker has annual capacity for 340,000 m.t. of ethylene and 215,000 m.t. of propylene. These capacities are considered by analysts to be below...
