Mitsui Chemicals recorded a net loss of Â¥8.1 billion ($80.2 million) in the fiscal year ended 31 March compared with a net loss of Â¥1 billion in the previous fiscal year. Sales decreased 3.3%, to Â¥1.40 trillion. Sales decreased mainly because of a Â¥44.8-billion decrease in sales in the company's basic chemicals segment as a consequence of an explosion at the companyâ€™s Iwakuni-Ohtake production complex at Waki, Japan.
