Life sciences lifts Bayer's results; 2013 outlook confirmed

Bayer reported a â€śpositive developmentâ€ť in its life sciences operations, comprising HealthCare and CropScience, in the first quarter but said that MaterialScienceâ€™s results were hampered by raw material costs. The company has, meanwhile, confirmed its outlook for the rest of 2013. Bayerâ€™s first-quarter net income rose 11.5%, to â‚¬1.16 billion ($1.51 billion), while core earnings per share advanced 1.8%, to â‚¬1.70. First quarter sales were up 2.1%, at â‚¬10.27 billion.
