Evonik to expand C4-chain capacity in Germany and Belgium11:15 AM MST | January 11, 2013 Evonik will develop its C4 products chain with the expansion of its butene-1 capacity at the Marl Chemical Park (Marl, Germany), and by expanding its butadiene capacity at Antwerp and its methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) production at Antwerp and Marl, the company announced today. The expansions are scheduled to be onstream in 2015. The investment, which according to Evonik is valued in “hundreds of millions of euros,” will add 75,000 m.t./year to Evonik’s Marl butene-1 plant, which has an existing capacity of 50,000 m.t./year, IHS Chemical says.
