EU chemical output declines 2.1% in first five months of 2013

Chemical output in the European Union fell 2.1% through the first 5 months of 2013, compared with the same period in 2012, Cefic says. Production in May fell by 1.1% versus the year-ago month, but grew by 2.7% compared with April 2013. Prices in May fell by 1.8% versus May 2012. Sales of chemicals were 3.3% lower in the January–April period compared with the same period a year ago. The European Union's net trade surplus in chemicals reached €16.9 billion ($22.3 billion) for January–April 2013, an increase of €1.9 billion, or 12.7%, on the year-ago period...
