BASF Builds Automotive Coatings Plant

BASF says that BASF Shanghai Coatings, a joint venture between BASF and Shanghai Coatings, will build a base-coat plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park to supply the automotive market. The new plant, due onstream in the first half of 2014, will increase BASF’s local production capacity for base coats by 13,500 m.t./year. The project will strengthen BASF’s position as a leading coatings supplier to the automotive industry in China, the company says. Base coats give color to the painted car body.
