Anadarko settles Tronox clean-up case for $5.2 billion

Energy group Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (The Woodlands, TX) said on Thursday that it has entered into an agreement to resolve the long running Tronox pollution proceedings brought against the Anadarko subsidiary, Kerr McGee Corp. The case concerned actions by Kerr-McGee prior to its acquisition by Anadarko in 2006. The $5.15 billion cost of the deal makes it the largest environmental bankruptcy settlement on record. The agreement resolves environmental clean-up costs and damage claims stemming from the bankruptcy of the titanium dioxide producer, Tronox, in 2009...
