Increased raw material and freight costs within the functional ingredients and water technologies segment led the decrease in profits. Sales for the combined chemical segments rose 13%, to about $2 billion. Ashland’s total net income, which includes the consumer markets segment, fell 18%, to $76 million, on sales up 13%, to $2.4 billion. Chemical profits fell 40% sequentially, while sales rose 1%. ...
