EPA Pulls Plug On Use of Nalco Dispersant in BP Cleanup

EPA has issued a directive requiring BP to “identify and use a less toxic and more effective dispersant” to help break apart oil gushing from a broken BP well in the Gulf of Mexico. The order came just hours after the agency reported that “toxicity data does not indicate any significant effects [of Corexit] on aquatic life.” Corexit is made by Nalco, which last week estimated Corexit’s use in the cleanup efforts generated sales of about $40 million by the end of last week, or about 1% of expected 2010 revenues.
