Markets :: Specialty Chemicals :: Surfactants Swiss Firm to Buy BASF’s LAB Business1:58 PM MDT | July 25, 2007 | Kerri Walsh BASF says it has agreed to divest its Chemische Fabrik Wibarco (Ibbenbüren, Germany) linear alkyl benzene (LAB) and linear alkyl benzene sulfonate (LAS) business, to Hansa Chemie International (HCI; Zurich) for an undisclosed sum. The deal will mark BASF’s exit from the LAB market, and HCI’s entrance. The deal is expected to close next July pending antitrust approval. Wibarco has a production plant at Ibbenbüren, which is included in the deal. HCI will take over production at the plant, which employs 80, BASF says. LAB is used as a starting...
