Momentive Signs Tire Collaboration with Sumitomo

Momentive Performance Materials says it has signed a collaboration deal with Sumitomo Rubber Industries for fuel-efficient tires. The two companies will further develop Sumitomo’s Ensave Premium tire, which is the first tire to incorporate Momentive’s NXT 45 silane technology. The coupling agent for silica-based tire tread improves tire rolling resistance and wet traction performance, and “virtually eliminate[s]” the release of ethanol typical of silica tire manufacturing.
