Imerys to Close U.K. Unit Amid High Costs, Slow Demand

Imerys Pigments for Paper, a unit of Imerys, says it plans to close its ground calcium carbonate facility at Salisbury, U.K. by early 2009, amid rising production costs and slowing demand. Meanwhile, some paper industry suppliers have announced price increases. “The significant reduction in paper production capacity within the U.K., combined with a slowdown in the economy, has led to a decline in overall demand,” Imerys says.
