DuPont Rolls Out C8-Free Coating

DuPont says it has developed a shorter-chain alternative chemistry to C8-based fluorotelomers, which scientists say can degrade into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in the body and the environment. The development is a step toward meeting targets of EPA’s voluntary stewardship program, under which DuPont and seven other companies agreed to reduce emissions and product content of PFOA and related chemicals by 95% by 2010 (CW, March 8, 2006, p. 11).
