Trial Begins in Case of Chinese Milk Contaminated with Melamine

Tian Wenhua, the former chairman of dairy foods company Sanlu Group, has gone on trial at the Intermediate People’s Court of Shikiazhuang, China, accused of adding melamine to children's milk powder to make the product appear high in protein. Three other executives at the company are accused of the crime and are due to face trial. The four could face the death penalty if convicted, China’s official Xinhua news agency reports. An additional 17 people have gone on trial across China during the past few days, of whom at least four face the death penalty...
