Carotenoid Market Expected to Grow 2.4% Annually

The global market for carotenoids is expected to reach grow 2.3%/year, surpassing $1.4 billion by 2018, according to BCC Research (Wellesley, MA), a market research group. Carotenoids are naturally occurring, fat-soluble pigments that are synthesized by plants, algae, and photosynthetic bacteria. Beta-carotene, the largest market, is expected to grow 3.1%, to $334 million. Lutein, the second largest, is forecast to grow 3.6%, to $309 million. The only market forecast to shrink is canthaxanthin, which will lose 2%/year, reaching $74 million by 2018, BCC says...
