Ajinomoto eyeing flavors and fragrances rival Symrise?

The Japanese food ingredients group Ajinomoto is examining buying German rival Symrise (Holzminden), according to the German investment newsletter Platow Brief. The newsletter says that Ajinomoto has hired an investment bank to help prepare an offer. The news comes on the heels of a spate of M&A deals in the flavors and fragrances industry, including Archer Daniels Midland $3.1-billion acquisition of Wild Flavors, in which Ajinomoto was also interested.
