Süd-Chemie to Build Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Plant in Canada

Süd-Chemie (Munich; Germany) says it will spend about €60 million ($75 million) to build the world’s largest plant for manufacturing lithium iron phosphate (LFP); a material that will go into the next generation of lithium batteries for electric vehicles. Süd-Chemie will build the proposed facility on the site of its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary Phostech Lithium, at Candiac, Quebec.   Commercial production at the plant is due to start at the beginning of 2012.
