Markets :: Plastics :: Polyvinyl chloride Braskem Chlor-Alkali Unit Remains Offline Following Accident8:30 AM MDT | June 2, 2011 | Lindsey Bewley Braskem’s chlor-alkali unit at its Maceio facility at Alagoas, Brazil will remain shut following a chlorine leak and subsequent pipeline rupture on May 21 and May 23. The Maceio unit has a capacity of 250,000m.t./year of PVC, 460,000 m.t./year of caustic soda and about 600,000 m.t./year of EDC. The company took the chlor-alkali unit offline following the chlorine leak and says there is enough chlorine and caustic soda stock to cope with about 10 days of supply constraints.
