EPS producers submit Reach authorization dossier for HBCDD

Eight manufacturers of expanded polystyrene (EPS), participating in the hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) consortium, have successfully submitted an application for authorization to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA; Helsinki), under the European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (Reach) regulations, the agency says. The objective of the consortium is to obtain an authorization for the continued safe use of HBCDD as a flame retardant in EPS until a valid alternative is commercially available in adequate quantities...
