Markets :: Plastics :: Polystyrene Dow and Chevron Begin Operations of Styrenics Joint Venture2:22 PM MDT | May 5, 2008 Americas Styrenics (Houston), a 50-50 jv between Dow Chemical and Chevron Phillips Chemical, began operations on May 1, Dow says. The jv, formed in April of last year, has a styrene capacity of 1.1 million m.t./year, 14% of the market in the Americas, and PS capacity of about 880,000 m.t./year, more than 20% of PS capacity in the Americas, the companies say. Chevron Phillips contributed a styrene monomer plant in St. James, LA and a polystyrene (PS) plant in Marietta, OH to the jv.
