Qatar awards FEED contract for Al Sejeel to Tecnimont

Tecnimont (Milan) has won the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the $5.5 billion Al Sejeel petrochemical complex at Ras Laffan. Al Sejeel, which in Arabic means hard rock, is a joint venture in which Qatar Petroleum holds 80% and Qatar Petrochemical Co. (Qapco) has the balance. The complex will produce a combined 2.2 million m.t./year of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) on completion in 2018. It will include one of the world’s largest mixed feed steam crackers.
