IHS WPC 2014: China is still a net PP importer but it continues working toward self-sufficiency

China’s polypropylene (PP) demand represents 33% of worldwide demand, far ahead of North America and Western Europe, each a distant joint second at 14%, IHS Chemical says. Worldwide PP demand in 2013 was 55.8 million m.t., according to IHS Chemical estimates. China is also ahead in terms of PP capacity with 24% of the total. However, a 24% share of worldwide capacity is far behind China's 33% share of demand, making China a significant net importer.
