Markets :: Plastics :: Polypropylene Dow to Close Union Carbide PP Unit12:28 PM MST | November 9, 2007 | Rebecca Coons Dow Chemical says it will shutter its 227,000-m.t./year polypropylene (PP) unit at Hahnville, LA by the end of the year. The closure is unavoidable due to the inability to secure economically sustainable propylene for feedstock, says Julie McAlindon, Dow PP global business director. Dow acquired the unit in 2001 with its purchase of Union Carbide. A “majority” of the approximately 60 people employed at the unit will be employed elsewhere at the Hahnville facility, Dow says.
