Basell to Close Quebec PP Plant

Basell says it will cease production of polypropylene (PP) at Varennes, PQ in April 2008. “As a stand-alone site with small capacity, the operating costs are no longer competitive,” says Michael Mulrooney, president of Basell North America. The company announced in June that it would idle its Sarnia, ON PP plant in mid-2008 (CW, July 25, p. 32).
