Reports: Borealis to cease HDPE production at Burghausen, focus site on PP

Borealis will close permanently its 175,000-m.t./year high-density polyethylene (HDPE) production line at Burghausen, Germany, by the end of next year, according to reports in the German media. One of the reasons cited is the difficult economic environment for polyolefins. Borealis had not returned requests for comment by press time. Borealis will continue operating its two polypropylene (PP) lines at the Burghausen site. The two plants have a total annual capacity of 570,000 m.t., according to IHS Chemical data.
