DSM Expands Polyethylene Fibers

DSM says it plans to invest up to $450 million to expand its Dyneema range of polyethylene fiber. Most of the investments will take place in the U.S, and the first line is expected to be operational in 2009. DSM’s Dyneema sales have grown 15%/year during the past few years, and the company expects Dyneema’s revenues to accelerate because of continuous growth in demand in the U.S. Engineering studies have begun for the project, which is expected to involve several phases of implementation during the next 2-3 years.
