Invista to Stop PTA Production at NC Site

Invista, the fibers subsidiary of Koch Industries (Wichita, KS), says it will stop producing purified terephthalic acid (PTA) at its Wilmington, NC facility by mid-March because market economics favor purchasing PTA rather than producing it. The company also plans to reduce dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) production over the next several months in order to match internal and external sales needs, Invista says.   Weak recovery for the PTA market and permanent industry demand loss for DMT led Invista to reduce production, the company says.
