Markets :: Plastics :: PET Braskem Exits Pet Business1:37 PM MST | January 13, 2009 | REBECCA COONS Braskem (São Paulo) says it has deactivated its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) unit at its Camaçari petrochemical complex in Brazil and has exited the business because it is no longer viable. The closure follows Braskem’s decision in May 2007 to temporarily suspend PET production and permanently stop dimethyl terephthalate feedstock production at Camaçari (CW, May 23, 2007, p. 4). Braskem commissioned a study to assess the possibility of resuming PET production based on a new technological approach that would ensure competitive costs...
