Markets :: Plastics :: PET Artlant Starts up PTA Plant at Sines1:19 PM MDT | April 3, 2012 | Alex Scott Artlant PTA (Sines, Portugal) has started up a 700,000 m.t./year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Sines, Portugal. Product from the plant will be used mostly to make polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for use in food packaging, and to make textile fibers. Located in Sines, the new unit is the most modern PTA plant in Europe and one of Portugal’s largest recent industrial projects.
