Air Products has made a $7 billion hostile bid to takeover Airgas and move into the packaged gases market. The combination would create North America's largest industrial gases company. However, Airgas has refused to engage Air Products in discussions over the past several months, the latter says, and analysts say the company may have to raise its offer to compel Airgas to sell.
