Linde Reports Higher Earnings and Sales, Confirms Outlook

Linde posted a 1% increase in first-quarter 2012 net profits compared with the same period of 2011, to €287 million ($380.5 million) on sales up 5%, to €3.5 billion. First-quarter Ebitda increased 6%, to €808 million. Net profits and Ebitda, and sales, were slightly ahead of  analysts' consensus forecasts. Results were boosted by business in emerging markets and a robust performance in North America, as well as by Linde's process-optimization and productivity-improvement program, the company says.
