Reports: European Union fails to agree on approval of 3 GM corn varieties

The European Union's standing committee on food chain and animal health has failed to agree on the approval of 3 genetically modified (GM) varieties of corn for use in food and animal feed, various media sources have reported. The European Commission will have the right to grant EU marketing approval if the deadlock persists and a decision is not reached at the appeal committee level, the reports say.   Approval is required for 2 corn varieties containing multiple or stacked gene traits.
