BASF opens $33-million ag research center

BASF today inaugurated a new agricultural research center at Research Triangle Park, NC. The $33-million investment includes a climate-controlled greenhouse, laboratories for plant biotechnology research, and an environmentally controlled insect production facility to expand insect control research. BASF announced the expansion in February 2012, shortly after announcing its intention to halt plant biotechnology development efforts aimed solely for the European market and move its BASF Plant Science headquarters to Research Triangle Park.
