Saltigo Aims to Expand in Japan

Saltigo (Langenfeld, Germany), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lanxess, says it plans to become the leading western supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in Japan. Opportunities for expansion in the $73-billion Japanese pharmaceutical market make it attractive, Saltigo says. Japan is the second-largest pharma market, following the U.S. A revision of the Japanese pharma laws in 2005 has given national pharma companies more ways to outsource API manufacturing to third parties, Saltigo says.
