Sigma-Aldrich to Buy U.S. Biopharma Services Firm for $350 Million

Sigma-Aldrich has agreed to acquire BioReliance Holdings (Rockville, MD), a provider of global biopharmaceutical testing services, for $350 million in cash from Avista Capital Partners (New York). Subject to regulatory clearance, the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of this year.    BioReliance generated sales in 2010 of approximately $110 million, with double-digit growth expected for 2011. In addition to its activities in Rockville, BioReliance has operations in Glasgow and Stirling, U.K. and sales offices in Tokyo and Bangalore.
