Yara to Acquire BASF Nitrogen Fertilizer Assets?

Yara International is at an advanced stage of negotiations to acquire most of BASF’s nitrogen fertilizer assets, according to recent press reports. BASF put most of its nitrogen fertilizer business up for sale earlier this year (CW, March 7/14, p. 24). The company said at the time that it planned to complete the divestment by the first quarter of 2012. Yara and BASF each declined to comment on the reports, but Yara confirmed earlier that it had submitted a bid for the BASF assets.
