Neonicotinoids Challenged as Study Links Imidacloprid to 85% Mortality of Queen Bees (update)

Researchers from Stirling University (Stirling, U.K.) and the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA; Avignon, France) have published two studies in which they say that 85% of queen bumblebees – the foundation of future bee populations – die when exposed to relatively small concentrations of Imidacloprid, a neonicotinyl insecticide. Imidacloprid was developed and is produced by Bayer CropScience.
