European Ombudsman condemns EFSA for maladministration

The European Union's Ombudsman has concluded that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) is guilty of maladministration in a case involving risk assessment as a substitute for safety testing. The Pesticide Action Network Europe (PAN-E; Brussels) initiated a complaint to the EU Ombudsman in 2011 about EFSA's working group on the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC), a statistical approach for safety testing being substituted by risk assessment.
