EU Delays Syngenta-Monsanto Sunflower Deal Decision

The European Commission has delayed until November 25, 2010 a decision on whether to approve a previously announced $160 million acquisition of Monsanto's global hybrid sunflower seeds business by Syngenta, after Syngenta offered remedies to ease competition concerns. In June, the commission opened a three-month investigation into the proposed deal and set a deadline of October 26, 2010 for a decision citing concerns about the removal of a strong competitor.
