EFSA to assess potential link between neonicotinoids and developmental neurotoxicity

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) says that two neonicotinoid insecticides, acetamiprid and imidacloprid, may affect the developing human nervous system. EFSA's experts have proposed that some guidance levels for acceptable exposure the two substances be lowered while further research is conducted. The authority says it needs more reliable data on developmental neurotoxicity (DNT). EFSA is proposing changes to toxicological reference values for these two neonicotinoids.
