BASF sues EU over fipronil ban

BASF announced today that it filed legal action challenging the EU Commission’s decision to restrict major seed treatment uses of the company's fipronil insecticide in the EU. The Commission instituted a two-year restriction on fipronil use in July after a scientific risk assessment carried out by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) concluded that fipronil poses a high acute risk to honeybees when used as a seed treatment for corn. BASF, however, says sound data from field studies that underpin the safe use fipronil were not considered...
