IHS Chemical: Subdued demand, volatile benzene likely to hurt polycarbonate margins

Polycarbonate continues to face margin pressure as PC production costs increase on tighter supply and higher prices for feedstock benzene, an IHS Chemical report says. The demand outlook is mixed. There are some signs of modest improvement in demand from the automotive and housing sectors. Demand for optical-grade, however, continues to suffer as use of CDs and DVDs continues to decline. In North America, the optical-grade PC price was left unchanged at $1.25-1.40/lb ($3,351/m.t.) delivered between February and March, according to IHS Chemical data...
