German Researchers Link PET to an Estrogen Mimicking Chemical

Researchers at Wolfgang Goethe University (Frankfurt) say they have discovered synthetic estrogen leaching into mineral water from plastic bottles made with polyethylene terephthalate (PET), according to findings published online by the journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research. The researchers say they found 78% of the samples tested showed estrogen mimicking activity but could not identify the chemical causing the estrogen effects.
