Food Safety Bill Gives FDA Deadline to Assess BPA

The food safety bill recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives would require the FDA to make a decision on the safety of bisphenol A (BPA) by the end of this year. If unable to do so, the law would require the FDA to restrict BPA’s use in products intended for pregnant women and young children. The Senate has not yet taken up the amendment, which was advanced by Representative Edward Markey (D., MA).
